Science Against Crime has the virtue of comprehension; it is an expert at work, enlightening the uninformed reader and rather adroitly stepping between the stools of "talking down" and that of C-A-T spells "cat". Translating scientific techniques is difficult enough because the obvious has to be stated and qualified, without hinting that the reader is either a moron or a fool.

Kind and Overman succeed without effort, opening-properly-at the beginning, touching lightly on the early days of detection, moving across the gamut of forensic scientific history as it was to the days of Edmond Locard, and doing this in thirteen deftly condensed pages.

The book moves on a step-by-step basis from the prinicples of evidence by way of the crime scene and the laboratory at work to the value of science in court and a sound, reasonable consideration of the future of forensic science.
