Zack was leaning toward her slightly, one hand over the back of the stall, the other free to do whatever it wanted. She suddenly wanted his arms around her. She suddenly wanted a lot more than that.
As if he was reading the message in her eyes, he did put his arm around her--and he bent his head to hers.
The first touch of Zack's lips wasn't anything like Jenny expected. She'd expected hard, possessive and arrogant. His lips were firm as if he knew what he wanted. But they were coaxing, too...encouraging her to respond. If she had thought further than that, she might have saved them both a lot of trouble. But she didn't, because all of her concentration was on the feel of his mouth, the touch of his tongue against hers, the strength of his arms as he pulled her closer, enveloping her fully in his embrace.
She couldn't fall in love with Zack again. She couldn't let her future be affected like that again.
She wouldn't.
Wrenching away, she looked up at him and shook her head. "No. You're not going to make me want you and then turn around and leave again. It won't happen, Zack. I won't let it. I deserve more than that."
Without waiting for a response from him, she returned outside to watch Dusty. If Zack built any sense of trust with this horse, it would be broken when he left.
Neither of them needed Zack Decker, and she'd better not forget that.

I believe in second chances. I also believe that a woman or a man holds a special place in his or her heart for first love. Couple that premise with my affinity for horses and ranches and ONCE UPON A GROOM, the second book in my Reunion Brides series was born! Jenny and Zack both have the gift of gentling horses. Horses are intuitive animals that seem to be able to read your heart and soul. Through their work with a rescued horse, they learn to read each others' hearts and souls. This is a romance but also a novel about families, parents and children and how upbringing can give a person perspective on his world.
One of my favorite places on the planet to visit is northern Arizona. The scenery is breathtaking from the Grand Canyon to the red rocks of Sedona to Oak Creek Canyon. I set my Reunion Brides series in the fictional town of Miners Bluff located near Flagstaff, a place rich in western history. This setting along with the holiday celebrations give this romance a heartwarming and emotional background.
And lastly the reunions continue. Jenny and Zack's fifteenth high school reunion start this emotional, romantic plot rolling. The reunion will keep the plot rolling into the next book of the series which is Mikala and Dawson's love story. Watch for it in 2012.
