On Using an Incorrect Value of σ2B/σ2in Balanced Incomplete Block Designs

Siskind and A formula for an upper bound to the proportional loss of information due to using some value of the ratio of the block component in inter-block variance to intra-block variance is derived. It is shown that this loss is small if the value used is not too discrepant from the true ratio.
