At the end of this year EJLST will have been in existence for eight years. Of course, this is no special anniversary per se, but I have the privilege to announce that the ninth year will start with a new Editor-in-Chief. My colleague Professor Uwe T. Bornscheuer will take over the editorship with effect of January 1 st . Uwe is a dedicated lipidologist with a distinguished career in biotechnology and applied biochemistry focussing on enzyme technology. At present he has the chair for Biotechnology & Enzyme Catalysis at the Department of Biochemistry at Greifswald University in Germany. Uwe not only authored excellent papers and reviews, but he has also edited collections and written books which are highly respected in the lipid field. In addition to his excellent research he is a very active participant in the profession, devoting much of his time and energy to the lipid community: he is currently President of the German Society for Fat Science (DGF) and, with effect of January 2008, also Treasurer of the European Federation for the Science and Technology of Lipids (Euro Fed Lipid). In his new role as Editor-in-Chief for EJLST he will therefore be able to rely on a broad range of experiences. And, as evident from his service on the editorial boards of many journals, he is a sought-after referee in our profession. In the course of these activities he became familiar with EJLST and the Publishing House Wiley-VCH. In view of all of this it was only natural for my colleagues and me of EJLST's Editorial Board, for the Publishing House, and for the Council of Euro Fed Lipid (the scientific owner of the journal), to approach Uwe and offer him the position of Editor-in-Chief.
