Vibration systems are characterized by the two parameters : w,, the undamped natural frequency, and (, the damping ratio. In the case of lightly damped systems, these parameters are determined by means of the logarithmic decrement. A simple method is presented here which applies to overdamped systems, ( > 1. The method involves simple measurements, and a criterion for the accuracy of the method is given.
