โœฆ Synopsis

Possible mechanisms of the third harmonic generation in solar radio bursts are investigated. It is shown that the most essential is the coupling of plasma waves in a source with electromagnetic radiation at the second harmonic. This phenomenon may be responsible for the occurrence of the third harmonic in the type V event on 25 October 1972 recorded by Benz, as well as in the U-burst on 3 September 1957 reported by Haddock and Takakura.
