Abstract

The surface electrical conductivity of a thin semiconductor film with electric dipoles on the surface is calculated. Surface electron states connected with the semiconductor–dielectric interface are investigated and the influence of the image forces on the surface conductivity is evaluated. In some cases these forces give rise to two‐dimensional surface energy bands at a depth of about 0.01 eV in the energy gap, so that they must be taken into consideration.
