✦ Synopsis


Abstract

N‐(3,5‐diiodo‐4‐pyridonyl)‐oxyacetic acid was synthesized by reacting 4‐hydroxy‐3,5‐diiodopyridine‐N‐oxide with chloroacetic acid in neutral medium, the yield amounting to 85 %.

4‐Hydroxy‐3,5‐diiodo‐2‐methylpyridine‐N‐oxide was converted analogously, but in a lower yield, into the corresponding oxyacetic acid, but the 2,6‐dimethyl derivative of 4‐hydroxy‐3,5‐diiodopyridine‐N‐oxide did not react with chloroacetic acid.

The synthesis and properties of several starting substances and intermediates, which are not yet recorded in the literature, are described.
