SILVAN S. TOMKINS received a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania in 1934 and i s the author of a two-volume work, Affect, Imagery, Consciousness. He was the recipient of a Research Career Award from the National Institute of Mental HeuUh, and has atso received awards for a Distinguished Contribiltion to Clinical Psychology and a Distinguished Contribution to Personalily Assessment.
