✦ Synopsis

In summary, there are several desirable features of this new deactivation method: (a) columnscan be dynamically coatedwith the reagent without extremely careful control of the coating parameters, (b) a lower deactivation temperature than required for conventional deactivations is as effective, (c) no polar reaction by-products are produced, and (d) the deactivation procedure is simple and rapid. The development of similar reagents for the deactivation of column surfaces for more polar stationary phases is presently under study in this laboratory.

## Abstract **BACKGROUND:** The use of enzymes in organic solvents has extended the scale of their practical applications. Papain has been widely used in chemical syntheses because of its broad substrate specificity. The aim of the present study was to improve the stability of papain in aqueous tet
