โฆ Synopsis
The term "facies" is used in this paper to describe the different vertical views of cells . There is a great variety of opinion between different authors as to whether differences in the radial vertical view (oblong, triangular, quadrangular, etc .) justify taxonomic separation into distinct varieties or forms . This has led to much confusion . SCOTT & GRONBLAD (1957, p . 5-6) gave a short discussion of this problem, in which they mentioned that the facies of desmids was very inconstant and it should not be used taxonomically without associating it with other constant characters . The present writer follows their opinion .
