โœฆ Synopsis

J denoting the inclination of the plane of the satellite's orbit ta the plane of the equator of the epoch, N the rightascension of the node, uo the longitude of the satellite in its orbit reckoned from the node and n the daily. motion. The eccentricities are here disregarded on account of their uncertaiuty and the effect of this disregard upon the other elements must be neglected, since the final equations resulting from the equations of condition have not been published. Llowever, with the exception of the daily motions, which will have to be corrected approximately from some of the observations of 1879, the data are probably sufficiently accurate to serve as the foundation for the investigation of the orbits from the obbervations of 1877 and 1879.

Referring the elements to the plane of the orbit of Mars, let y denote the inclination of the orbit of the satellite to that of the planet, C ) the longitude of the node reckoned from the equator and M the arc of the satellite's orbit between the equator and the planet's orbit. The inclination J o and node No of the orbit of Mars for 1880, referred to the equator of 1880 + 2
