The influence of transient radiation-induced absorption on scintillation detector response is discussed. It is shown that fast decaying color centers, appearing simultaneously with the excitation of radiating centers in scintillator, absorb a fraction of the scintillation light which could result in a nonlinearity of the detector response.

The response of a cadmium zinc telluride (CZT) detector to X-rays with energies around the Zn, Cd and Te Kabsorption edges was investigated. The energy non-linearity in the detector response at the K-edges is less than 0.1%, within the experimental errors. No abrupt variation in both the w-value and
