โœฆ Synopsis

We point out the connection between the cell discretization algorithm and the primal hybrid finite-element method. There is a very close relationship between these two non-conforming methods. In particular, an important result between Lagrange multipliers and normal derivatives obtains in both cases. Sample numerical evidence verifying this connection is presented for a simple two-dimensional elliptic problem.

The use of mixed ยฎnite element methods in discretizing the Stokes equations leads to systems involving the so-called pressure matrix. Some new spectral properties of this important matrix are here presented for the Q 1 -P 0 element.
