✦ Synopsis

A direct calculation is reported of the rate constant of enzyme catalysis within the perturbative approach to the two-level model of enzyme-substrate complex. A simple dependence of the rate constant on the small amplitudes of the permanent, static distortion mode is obtained, whose relevance for the kinetics of enzymatic reactions is discussed.
