✦ Synopsis

This paper investigates performance indices for ranking of contingencies causing generator reactive power violations as well as the selection of real power (MW) injection contingencies adversely affecting transmission line flows.

The AC second-order and DC load flow methods were used. Tests were carried out using the IEEE 24-bus network to examine the behaviour of these indices and their suitability for on-line control applications.
