Objections, raised against the W e i s s-N 6 e 1 treatment of antiferromagnetism, are discussed. One must expect that the maximum magnetization of the sub-lattice will only be a fraction of that following from a linear alignment of their spins. It is pointed out that a division of a linear antiferromagnetic chain into two sub-lattices with different magnetization, as supposed in the above-mentioned method, will probably occur if a certain minimum amount of anisotropy in the exchange forces is exceeded.
