There are many biochemical systems currently under study whose action consists of, or depends on, the ability of proteins to specifically bind another molecule. The availability of a method to measure binding quickly and quantitatively is an important aid in studying these systems. In many cases, the properties of nitrocellulose filters may be exploited to provide such an assay.
