β¦ Synopsis
The distribution of product electronic states from the reactions hlz + X -hlX + hl* for X1X = KCI, KBr, and RbBr is reexamined from the information theoretic viewpoint, using a hierarchy of prror distributions. Good agreement with experimental line intensities IS achieved using a surprisal linear in the fraction of the total energy in electronic excitation with a small "temperature-hke" surprlsal parameter ($ _ < 0.4 for the most precise of these priors). The continuous rigid rotor harmonic oscillator (RRHO) prior is shown to produce equally good agreement (with $ -< I), thus providing d simple Jnaiyti- cal expression for branching ratios betueen product electronic states.

Time-resolved IR emission spectroscopy (TRIES) has been used to study infrared emission in the 3400-3 100 cm-r region from HCN molecules produced when CN radicals abstract a hydrogen atom from ethane, propane, and chloroform.
