✦ Synopsis

The antenna pattern synthesis problem for a finite line source is formulated and treated in the space aj absolutely square-integrable junctions. An examination is made of the condition Mat must be imposed on the desired radiation pattern so that the problem is solvable. The optimum aperture distribution is detmmirwd bg the variational technique, subject to the requirement that the approximating radiation patterns should have a superdirective ratio less than or equal to some Jixed positive value. Xhe optimaldy of the solution is demon&rated by consideri~ the suJE&nt condition. The error criterion is measwed in the mean-square sense.

## Abstract This paper describes an efficient design method for an aperture‐coupled microstrip patch antenna, based on an improved transmission line model. The governing equations have been derived and applied to the design of the antenna with a center operating frequency of 11 GHz. The theoretical

In general, the radiation pattern in the vertical plane of an antenna requiring a low elevation angle coverage is made to have sharp cutoff characteristics so that the reduction of the electric field intensity by ground reflection, known as "the lobbing effect," can be avoided. A hemispherical dielectric resonator antenna excited by a microstrip feedline through a narrow slot in a thick ground plane is studied theoretically and experimentally. A numerical method based on a combination of the spectral Green's function, modal Green's function, and the method of moment is use
