Almtract--The polymerization of 9-ethynylanthracene was carried out using Ziegler-Natta catalysts: AIEt3-M(acac)x and AIEt 3 Fe(dmg)2.2Py, where M = VO n, Co u1 and Fe m, acac---acetylacetonate, drag = dimethylglyoxime and Py = pyridine. In these case, polymers with polyene structure are obtained. The u.v. hypochromism of this polymer, compared with 9-vinylanthracene, might be attributed to electronic interactions between anthryl groups in a helical cis cisoidal structure, with three monomer units located in the helix. Thermal analysis gives additional evidence supporting the cis structure.
