The author states that levulose is not present in normal ripe sugar cane, and that the leaves, while containing cane sugar and glucose, are also free from levulose. Hence, he concludes that the assumption that cane sugar is formed by the condensation of levulose with glucose is no longer tenable. ,Other constituents of the cane were also examined. S.C.H.
