A study of fatigue hardening in single crystals of pure copper shows that, before saturation, stress-strain loops can display workhardening rates of about a third of the elastic shear modulus. These rates exceed tensile workhardening rates by roughly two orders of magnitude. This suggests that there

β¦ Synopsis
The onset of strain localization in a copper single crystal, oriented for single slip, and cycled at a constant plastic strain amplitude corresponding to the low end of the plateau in the cyclic stress-strain curve, has been explored by inteferometry and analysis of hysteresis loops. Current methods for analyzing behavior early in life are shown to be inadequate, and several new methods, involving the shape of the hysteresis loops, are introduced. Changes in local cuwature have been observed throughout rapid hardening, and the nucleation of persistent slip bands is shown to coincide with a basic change in the shape of the hysteresis loops.

1912 WITMER et al.: PERSISTENT SLIP BANDS IN FATIGUED COPPER SECOND REDUCTION =.4mm at 40mm Radius

The electrochemical behaviour of copper single crystals was followed during plastic straincontrolled corrosion-fatigue in an aqueous, oxide-forming solution. The decay of current at fixed potential was interrupted temporarily by the onset of cycling, and irreversibly, and dramatically, by the format
