Cyclic growth rate of a surface crack is complicated by the three dimensional stress field around the crack and also by an interaction expected between the growth rate at every position on the contour. An analysis, based on the total energy around a smfoce crack, derived a correlation between strain

โฆ Synopsis
Ahatraet-A reaction rate model for mean fatigue crack growth (FCG) under periodic load variation is employed. It is shown that a specified (load,, load& or (S,, , R) is not suthcient to uniquely determine the crack growth rate at constant temperature T and environment E. Further, given a periodic load wave form and (T, E), it is shown that there is a family of different load wave forms that produce the same crack growth rate.
