Abstract
Heteronuclear NMR experiments, in particular ^51^V, wereperformed with the aim to elucidate the nature of vanadates and peroxovanadates in hydrophilic ionic liquids (i.e., [bmim][BF~4~], [bmim][TfO] and [bdmim][BF~4~]). The data so far reported clearly indicate that ionic liquids have a strong influence on the solution chemistry of vanadate in water both for the formation of the aggregates (with and without H~2~O~2~) and for the rate of peroxide consumption catalyzed by vanadium. In BF~4~^–^ containing ionic liquids, formation of vanadate–fluoride adducts is suggested. The obtained results are also discussed in the light of the reactivity data of peroxovanadates in ionic liquids. (© Wiley‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2008)
