✦ Synopsis
The mathematical form of a time-height sea-level curve representing intermediatefrequency fluctuations superimposed on an underlying upward trend yields a simple method for estimating the minimum amplitude of fluctuations from field measurements of the thickness of silt-peat couplets. Drawing on data from the Thames Estuary and the Fenland Basin, fluctuations of relative sea-level with minimum amplitudes between 0.08 m and 0.91 m seem to have occurred in the southeast British region during the mid-Flandrian.
