Above 70 "C, the dialdehyde fibers behave almost like ideal rubber (no extension energy). However, they show large positive extension energies and extension entropies below 70°C. This behavior at low temperatures probably is a result of the tendency of completely hydrolyzed polyvinyl alcohols to crystallize partially, or of the tendency of its chains to form partial helices.
