Abstract
In this paper we consider a mathematical model describing the shock of a rigid body and a linear viscoelastic bar, resting on a rigid base, in the frames of the Mikusiński operator calculus. We determine and analyse the character of the exact solution of the corresponding problem in the field of Mikusiński operators. We construct an approximate solution of this problem, and estimate the error of approximation. The mentioned problem is taken from the papers (J. Mech. NCSR Vietnam Tom 1991; 13(2):1–7; Nonlinear Anal. Theory Meth. Appl. 2001; 43:547–561). Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
