✦ Synopsis

The quantum theory of dispersion in metals, previously developed .by one of us, is generalised so as to take into account not only the direct action of an incident light wave upon the different electrons of the metal but also the influence which each of these suffers from the induced periodic motion of the other ones. The effect of the new correction on the position and strength of the resonance frequencies of the system is illustrated for a special case.
