✦ Synopsis


The metal-ligand bond of Ni [ C2Dl] may be broken by ultrafast pump laser pulses on a femtosecond ( a25 fs) time scale. As a consequence the product C2D4 is prepared with coherent out-of-plane bending vibrations, which can be monitored by ultrafast probe lasers. The effect is simulated by representative wavepackets propagated on the relevant potential energy surfaces of Ni [ C,D,] using a simple, two-dimensional model.
