The fluorescence spectrum of estrone is interpreted as the result of an internd transfer of excitattion energy from the aromatic chromophore of the molecule to the carbonyl group, or of a partiticn of the excitation energy between these chromophores which is very different from the ratio of their respective absorption coefficients.
