✦ Synopsis

The mfluence of the mltlal pH on the acrylamlde electropolymenzatlon m solution was determmed by gravlmetnc studies The emplrlcal kmetlcs were found to be dependent on [H+]"*S The electrochemical polymenzahon rates were obtained by substractlon of the overall process and the chemical polymenzahon rates The simultaneous presence of monomer oxldatlon, mtrate discharge and residual water oxldatton on the electrode explains the expenmental results A lower mltlal pH hinders water oxldatlon, favourmg monomer oxldatlon and electrolyte discharge the mductlon time decreases and the polymenzatlon rate increases The increase of the temperature favours monomer oxldatlon and electrolyte discharge at the expense of water oxldatlon the mductlon time decreases All the variables able to produce a decrease m water discharge favour a fast productlon of a polyacrylamlde film on the electrode durmg the mductlon time The presence of this film was not enough to avoid the mductlon time and the anolyte acldlficatlon was needed to hinder water discharge The acldlficatlon was produced by proton hberatlon durmg the mductlon time
