A new formulation for solving elastoplastic frictional contact problems by the boundary element method using non-conforming discretization is presented. The initial strain approach, together with the von Mises yield criterion is adopted. Two di erent methods are developed for the evaluation of the c

✦ Synopsis
The present paper discusses the application of the hyper-singular boundaryintegral equation, the so-called traction formulation, to solve linear-elasticfracture-mechanics (LEFM) problems. Emphasis is given to two-dimensional boundary-element implementations, combining continuous or discontinuous quadratic and quarter-point elements in order to identify the limitations and improvements for computing stress-intensity factors. The study shows the importance of considering displacement-derivative continuities into the numerical implementation and the use of quarter-point elements to improve results.

The paper attempts to improve the efficiency of a general method developed previously for computing nearly singular kernel integrals. Three new formulations are presented by following an approach similar to that used in the previous method. Their numerical efficiency is compared with the previous me
An element for analysis of variable order one point singularities in plane problems has been proposed. The element meets all the convergence requirements, viz. the rigid body mode, the constant strain condition and the interelement compatibility. It can be easily incorporated in any package based on
