✦ Synopsis

The flow of He II around a thermally conducting spherical obstacle is investigated theoretically on the basis of the two-fluid model, the boundary conditions at infinity being that the velocities of the normal and superfluid components may have different magnitudes, but shall lie in the same direction, while the temperature there also has a given value. The temperature, pressure and velocity fields, as well as the force exerted by the fluid on the sphere, are derived on the assumption that terms quadratic in the velocities may be neglected.
