โฆ Synopsis
The concept of "safe crack propagation" which relates to life prediction is discussed in this paper. It is shown that the variability of fatigue-crack propagation data results essentially from the differences of number of cycles for crack propagation from initial length n, to assigned terminal length a; for different specimens while the test using only one specimen. even for many observed values, gives very little information concerning the variability of the material or component and that of test procedure.
