✦ Synopsis


The energy-misorientation relationship of grain boundaries in copper was measured by recording the rotation rate of a single crystaf sphere of copper sintered on to a flat single crystal of the same material. The results obtained suuggest that low-energy boundaries may exist at non-highcoincidence orientation relationships and that the shape of the energy-misorientatioR curve in the vicinity of an energy cusp may have the shape of a trough or a V with an obtuse angle at ths tip. Shapes of this type seem inconsistent with localized misfit dislocation models of the structure of grain boundaries.

R&urn&--Nous avons mesure la relation entre la d&orientation et I'energie des joints de grains dans le cuivre en enregistrant la vitesse de rotation d'une sphere de cuivre monocristalline frittie sur un monocristal plat du meme materiau. Nos rbuitats donnent a penser qu'il peut exister dcs joints de faible Snergie ne correspondant pas a des relations d'orientation de forte coincidence, et que la courbc de I'energie en fonction de la d~orientation peut avoir la forme dune cuvette ou dun V avec un angle obtus. au voisinage dun point de rebroussement de l'energie. De telles formes ne semblenr pas compatibles avec les modties de joints de grains qui admettent des dislocations de disaccord Iocalisecs. Zusammenfassung-Der Zusammenhang zwischen Energie einer Korngrenze und vermittelter Fehlorientierung in Kupfer wurde gemessen mit dcr Registrierung der Rotationsrate einer einkristallinen Kupferkugel, die auf eine ebene Oberfllche desselben Materials gesintert wird. Die erhaltenen Ergebnisse legen nahe, dai3 Korngrenzen niedriger Energie bei nicht-hoher Koinzidenz existieren konnen. und dal3 die Form der Energie-Fehlorientierungskurve in der Niihe der Energiespitze die Form einer Muulde oder eines V mit einem srumpfen WinkeI an der Spitze hat. Solche Kurvenverlaufe scheinen mit Korn~enzmodellen auf der Basis lokalisierter Fehlpassungsversetzungen unvertriglich zu sein.
