## Abstract Purinergic signalling plays a major role in intercellular communication between neurons and glial cells. Glial cells express metabotropic receptors for ATP and adenosine, the latter being activated after ATP cleavage through extracellular ecto‐ATPase activity. Ionotropic receptors for e
