## Abstract The flow and mixing in a 3D geometrically accurate representation of a twin sigma blade mixer is simulated using the finite element method (FEM) combined with the mesh superimposition technique as implemented by Polyflow (Fluent, Inc.) to calculate the velocity, velocity gradients, shea

β¦ Synopsis
This paper studies the e ciency of two ways to treat the non-linear convective term in the timedependent incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and of two multigrid approaches for solving the arising linear algebraic saddle point problems. The Navier-Stokes equations are discretized by a secondorder implicit time stepping scheme and by inf-sup stable, higher order ΓΏnite elements in space. The numerical studies are performed at a 3D ow around a cylinder.
