The diamagnetic susceptibility of a series of methyl-group IVB halides has been measured. By the method of Dorfman the pure Langevin diamagnetic contribution (A) and the tempemture independent paramagnetic contribution (&) could be separately determined. This greatly improved the information obtainable from these data The & term could be interpreted in terms of steric hindrance, (p-d)n bonding and polymerisation

effects.
