β¦ Synopsis
A new procedure for the derivation of the equation of state in models of adsorption from solution is developed. Based on thermodynamics a simple relation between the surface pressure and the chemical potential of one reference solvent state is established, making the calculation of the state equation straightforward in cases where the chemical potentials of the adsorbed particles are known. The relation is applied to various lattice models for the derivation of their equation of state. The calculation of the state equation directly from the Helmholtz free energy of mixing of the surface layer and the bulk solution is also indicated.
