โฆ Synopsis
The problems involved in the choice of a design requirement for wave induced vertical bending moments are discussed. The major options concerning the choice of the design wave climate, as reflected in the scatter diagram adopted, the choice of the theory to calculate the transfer functions, the influence of the non-linearity of the response and the effect of the speed are quantified. Suggestions are made on how to deal with these different aspects. Generalisations to the other wave induced load effects are straightforward.
