โœฆ Synopsis

The results of continuous registrations of different components of cosmic rays in the years 1950-1952 are reported. The cosmic ray intensity at sea level is correlated with the air pressure, the height of the 100 mb level and the temperature just below this level. The barometric coefficient a, the height coefficient b and the temperature coefficient c are calculated for the total radiation and two different hard components. They were proved to be statistically significant. The coefficients a,, b, and cS for the soft component alone were calculated from the corresponding coefficients for the hard component and the total radiation. On the basis of these values it may be concluded that a part of the soft component at sea level is not produced by the meson component.

The relationship between the cosmic ray intensity and solar activity during solar cycle 20 is discussed. A model is developed whereby it is possible to simulate the observed cosmic ray intensity from the observed number of solar flares of importance /> 1. This model leads to a radius for the modulat

Instrument carrying balloon flights using the radio-cosmic-ray technique have been made during the day and the night, to investigate the amount of the diurnal variation at high altitudes. It was found that the effect, if any, is smaller than the experimental error of two per cent., and is estimated
