The literature indicates a four-fold or su-fold coordination symmetry for (\mathrm{UO}{2}^{2+}) in aqueous solution However, the uranyl ion in erystalline (\mathrm{UO}{2}\left(\mathrm{ClO}{4}\right){2} 7 \mathrm{H}{2} \mathrm{O}) has been found by (\mathrm{X})-ray diffraction to be coordinated by five water molecules From the MCD of aqucous (\mathrm{UO}{2}\left(\mathrm{ClO}{4}\right){2} \cdot \mathrm{H}_{2} \mathrm{O}) we have found evende for five-fold coordination. A tentative assignment for the escited states in the visible spectrum is also proposed.
