โœฆ Synopsis

An expression for the variance in birth volumes during balanced growth of a cell population is derived. The requirement of this expression being positive and finite allows a discussion of some of the requirements imposed on the mechanisms of growth and division.

A computer program is described which simulates the growth and DNA replication processes in bacteria. The program is based on a particular model of DNA replication and its coordination with cell division (2, 5, 7). Results of our studies indicate that the model is consistent with a number of experim

We present in this paper various links between individual and population cell growth. Deterministic models of the lag and subsequent growth of a bacterial population and their connection with stochastic models for the lag and subsequent generation times of individual cells are analysed. We derived t

Asymmetric cell division generates two cells that contain different regulatory proteins and express different fates. In an example of asymmetric cell division from B. subtilis, a site on the membrane of the dividing cell is chosen to establish the initial asymmetry. Recent show that a key regulatory
