The Ricci tensor has been computed in several infinite dimensional situations. In this work, we shall be interested in the case of the central extension of loop groups and in the asymptotic behaviour of the Ricci tensor on free loop groups as the Riemannian metric varies. ## 1999 Academic Press [h

β¦ Synopsis
In the paper one- and two-dimensional cohomology is compared for finite and infinite nilpotent Lie algebras, with coefficients in the adjoint representation. It turns out that, because the adjoint representation is not a highest weight representation in infinite dimension, the considered cohomology shows basic differences.

We construct here several classes of simple Lie algebras of characteristic Ε½ . 0 which include the Virasoro algebra without central charge and the graded Lie algebras of Cartan type. We study the exponential growth of the codimensions c L of a finite-dimenn sional Lie algebra L over a field of characteristic zero. We show that if the n solvable radical of L is nilpotent then lim c L exists and is an integer.
In the context of finite-dimensional cocommutative Hopf algebras, we prove versions of various group cohomology results: the QuillenαVenkov theorem on detecting nilpotence in group cohomology, Chouinard's theorem on determining whether a kG-module is projective by restricting to elementary abelian p
Let G 4 be the unique, connected, simply connected, four-dimensional, nilpotent Lie group. In this paper, the discrete cocompact subgroups H of G 4 are classified and shown to be in 1-1 correspondence with triples p 1 p 2 p 3 β 3 that satisfy p 2 p 3 > 0 and a certain restriction on p 1 . The K-grou
