✦ Synopsis
Collective vibrational modes of a deformed nucleus which appear naturally within a single particle model framework, rewritten so as to expose such coherent behaviour, are studied. A low energy collective excitation which may be identified with the giant angle dipole (GAD) is investigated. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the model used to describe this state are given and shown to hold for a deformed oscillator system corresponding to a well-deformed heavy even-even nucleus. The inertial parameter, restoring force, and energy appropriate to this mode are obtained and the effects of long range correlations on these quantities are investigated. The consequences of using a picture of pure contra rotation for this state are discussed.
