โœฆ Synopsis

Abstract

The statistical characterization of tropical rainstorms is considered. Linear relationships are demonstrated between log duration and rate, and between log amount and rate.

The fate of rainfall when it reaches the ground is then considered, and it is shown that from the linear regression of amount of rain and rate, together with runoff data, percolation rates can be estimated. The consistency of estimates of percolation rate is demonstrated from data from Namulonge, Uganda, and from the Ozark Highlands in Arkansas.
