✦ Synopsis

The change of the resistance of single crystals of pure gallium (which had the pseudo-tetragonal axis parallel to the length of the wire) in a magnetic field perpendicular to the wire has been measured at liquid helium temperatures.

  1. At 4.22Β°K the increase of the resistance is larger than at liquid hydrogen temperatures, 2. At 4.22Β°K and 1.35Β°K the increase is nearly the same, 3. The separation of the secondary maxima and minima in the rotational diagrams is larger at liquid helium temperatures.

A discussion is given of the considerations of Meixner and Koh-1 e r according to which the change of resistance in a magnetic field is not necessarily an even function of the field strength: it may contain odd powers of H andeven a linear term. No experimental evidence for the existence of such ter
