✦ Synopsis
Orientational and induced time-correlation functions, involved in the light scattering from fluids of small linear molecules, are studied in the short-time behaviour. The induced effects are evaluated within the dipole-induced-dipole (DID) mechanism. It is shown that the cross term cannot follow the short-time hehaviour of the otientational dynamics. As a consequence, it is argued that the light scattered at the high frequency reflects the fluctuations of the gas-phase collective polarizability rather than the ff uctuations of the liquid-phase effective polarizability.
