The paper examines the commonly used rule for the addition of phase resistances. It is shown that for fluctuating coefficients this rule does not necessarily apply. It is thought, however, that the error involved is not iarge enough to be important for most practical applications.

The concept of additivity of individusl resistances to mass transfer between phases is confirmed by experimental measurements of transfer coefficients for vaporization of water into air, and the absorption from air of carbon dioxide, ammonia, and acetone by water. RBsum6-Les expdriences de l'auteur
